Major General Simon V.L. Willis, AM, CSC. Australian Regular Army (Retired)

Major General Simon Willis retired from the Australian Regular Army in October 2004 after 37 years of active service; he then served in the Australian Standby Reserve until October 2013. His last posting was as Head of Australian Defence Staff and Defence Attaché in Washington DC from 2002-2004. From 2005-2012 he ran his own business in Washington, DC before returning to Australia. An infantryman, General Willis graduated from RMC, Duntroon in 1970, served as a rifle platoon commander in 4RAR/NZ ANZAC in South Vietnam and has commanded light, mechanized and airborne units. General Willis was ADF Head of Personnel, commanded the multi-national Peace Monitoring Group in Bougainville, was ADF Head of Joint Education and Training and was Commandant of the Royal Military College of Australia.

As well as his Australian honors, AM and CSC, General Willis has been twice awarded the US Legion of Merit, Officer Class for his alliance work. General Willis was educated at Frankston High School, the University of New South Wales/Royal Military College of Australia, Pakistan Command and Staff College, US Army War College, Australian Company Directors‘ Course, National and International Security Course at Harvard as well as numerous service courses.
